Hi everyone! I’m Sean and to make your research time effective, I have created this post for you. If you like to save time figuring your way around the mountain, consider a private lesson (1 instructor dedicated to your group) or a group lesson (1 instructor to many individuals)
A group lesson would be what I would recommend as it is the cheaper and more cost effective option when just starting out.
Just for context, I stayed in Hakuba Mountain Lodge. My research revolves around this area and I have not looked further. For children below 18, I will recommend a group lesson. As a group, kids usually have more fun and will be able to learn more. The group has to be in the same skill group though so look for a school that separates their classes by skill level and your kids will be sure to have a blast on the mountains!
After considering the 2 ski schools mentioned below, I decided to go with Hakuba Snowsports. The group lessons didn’t disappoint while the private lesson was a slight hurdle as the kids did not communicate well with the private instructor they had on the first day. Sometimes I believe the lessons just require more ice breaking in order to for kids to warmup to the instructors and for the instructor to get the ball rolling with them.

At the end of the lessons, we were really happy that they are progressing really well and they are able to ski down the begineers slope at Goryu! It was amazing, watch our skiing in the video below.
